Does anyone have any Leggett roots around the Norfolk / Suffolk border villages. My own line are from Lowestoft / Lound / Ashby / Herringfleet / Gorleston / Gt Yarmouth / Hempnall / Topcroft / Surlingham and surrounding villages
Hi Les, Yes, we have e-mailed before about the Leggett family from Suffolk. You have a lot of my family history on this page. Can you change the dates and names for me on the Generation 7.
Basil John Leggett is my father and he married Mary L. Rhodes. And my husband, Colin Frayne was born 1947.
I am thinking you received this information from a cousin of mine James Leggett from Crawley, Sussex but if you didn't and you are part of this Suffolk family then we may be related.
I was recently in Laxfield and have some information from a tombstone which I read as well as from their War Memorial in town which I still have to look up on my own tree.
Anyway, would like to hear from you if you are part of this Suffolk group.
Carol Frayne
Hi Les,
Greetings from Australia. The amount of research I have accomplished has led me to a Jeremiah Leggett 1811 of Charsfield Suffolk, and thence to Jeremy Leggett 1711,in the same area.
Personally, I lived in Sth Benfleet Essex, and left there during the war.
I have a rather ancient Italian manuscript outlining the possible roots of the family Leggati, and noting the name changes through time.
Jim Leggett
Hi Jim,
If you can contact me through my website www.leggettfamilyhistory.com I can then send to you via email an uptodate tree for Jeremiah.
Is the Italian manuscript the same one as I have on the website?

Les
Hi Les,
I have just begun researching the Liggett family from the Toxteth Park area of Liverpool, starting with myself and working backwards: Gary Liggett b Wirral 26/9/1957> Geoffrey Liggett b Port Sunlight1/12/1929> Herbert Liggett b5/5/1900 (Toxteth Park) d10/05/1978 (Wirral)> William Liggett b Cira 1870.
I have tried emailing you from your site, but without success, I think, due to AOL browser? I wonder how the above part of the family links to other parts of the Toxteth Park Liggett family?
Hi
My name is Miss Sarah Jayne Leggett. I am trying to trace my roots. I do not know much and I dont have much to go on.
I was born on the 14th July in 1987 at East Glamorgan Hospital, with my twin Ruth Elizabeth Legget. My sister was born at the same hospital on the 29th April 1984.
My mother, I dont know where she was born but on the 26th July 1951 (SUSAN LEGGETT maiden name KEMP)
My father was born I think in South Wales on the 10th October 1956 (KENNETH JOHN LEGGETT)
I know I have relatives in Germany and Canada.
My uncle is called (GORDEN KEMP) he is located in South Wales and has two daughters Sophie and Harriet.
I'm trying to trace my mothers side of the family as well as my fathers. There seems to be no trace at all.
The only person I Can find is my uncle Gordon Kemp on www.burkes-peerage.net
Can anyone PLEASE help, i'm only 21 and don't know how to continue my search, although i'm travelling to Caldy Island off the coast of S.Wales where I remember going when I was 6 with my Nana (EVELYN KEMP)
Best regards
Sarah
Hi, my name ist Robert Dietz from Germany. On this side i saw the name "gary liggett" born in 1957. Now I have a question: Is this gary who lived years ago in Bromborough Wirral, who was my penfriend in the sixties and we wrote a lonesome letter in 1978?
Hi Robby,
I'm sorry to say that I cannot give out addresses of individuals and in most cases I don't know their addresses as information is provided by a third party.
Details of penfriends is not the sort of information I am ever passed, so I cannot help you there.
Regards,
Les
Hi Sarah Jayne,
I have sent you an individual email to your address with some bits of data and a request for some clarification on some details.

Les
Hi
I began tracing my family tree a couple of years ago, concentrating initially on my family (Goldsmith) where I traced back on my mother's side to Thomas Leggett born c1665 Surlingham, Norfolk through his grand-daughter Mary Leggett who married into the Boast family in 1777.
As I am married to a Leggett my search for the last few months has been to see if there is any connection between my Leggett family and his. So far I have traced his family back to Robert Leggett b. 1728 in Mattishall, Norfolk.
So far I havent been able to find any connection between the Surlingham and Mattishall Leggetts, but was wondering if you are aware of any one doing any research into these families who may be able to point me a bit further on to finding a possible connection.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards
Janice Leggett

I am up against a brick wall in my searching and I wonder if you can help or give me a bit of direction. I have found my Great Grandfather - a Thomas Liggett (born about 1814) - he lived most of his life in Ballynagreagh townland (nr Tandragee) in Ireland. Thomas married Ellen Murphy in Banbridge in Apr 1855. From that certificate I know that Thomas' father was named Samuel. I have found a number of other Liggetts living in Tandragee about the same time - and though I feel it is likely that some of them are sibilings of Thomas I cannot find any hard data that links them.
I have tried viewing some of the likely parish records but as you will be very aware - not many of these have survived.
I would be very grateful for any help you can give me.
Dermot
Dermot,
I have quite an extensive database of Liggett's in N.Ireland, but i'm sorry to say I have nothing on the family you mention.
As you know there were many Liggett's around the Tandragee area and your family did not seem to have any records published in the IGI or other sources when I did my Irish research a few years ago.
I will keep looking for the names you mention and if I find any reference I will let you know.
Regards, Les
You asked for any Leggett (and variants) connections to post under a new country if they're outside of England.
How do I do that?
Also I'm tracking connected Leggatts from England, India, South Africa, Australian and Canada. Which country would you advise me to use as the main one?
I'm also interested in contacting Janice Leggett, who said she was tracking a Goldsmith connection; as I am.
Thanks all.
Hi Brielle,
Don't worry abot the technical side of this blog site, it is running on the two sections. It needs a revamp which will be done in due course. Just post your message on either section and see what comes. If you let me know your interest I will see what I can find.

Les
Dear Les, I'm traveling to N. Ireland in August and am wanting to glean any information about the parents of John Liggett who may be the son of James Alexander Liggett (mid 1700s). Some say he was the one who moved from Londonderry to America. Due to the "Great Frost" in N. Ireland in 1740-41, this would definitely be a motivation, but I need to see documents proving their relationship. Does any of your research help give me a clue to this? Where should I research when I get there?
Any help from anyone would be welcomed!
I am Looking for the family of John Leggett 1808-1889, born in Whitton, Suffolk, died in Ipswich, Suffolk. Does this ring a bell with anyone?
Sarah Schenk.
Do you have any information of Leggatts around Stepney, London, 1700s/early 1800s. Nathaniel Leggatt is my 4gggfather, his wife was Caroline Bennett. His son Charles(my 3ggf) and daughter Clarissa left London in 1830s and emigrated to NZ and Australia where they married and remained. Charles was christened as Leggitt in 1814, Clarissa as Legott in 1810. I am trying to go back further than Nathaniel and Caroline. Are you able to help please?
Hi MS,
Nathaniel was born on 15th March 1793 at Shoreditch, London. His perents were Nathaniel and Ann Banks who were married 27th Feb 1785 at St Pancras Old Church, London. They also had another son George and a daughter Elizabeth.
During the 1980's I was in contact with a Kerry Ann Amo Amo who gave me some general information about Charles going to New Zealand and Australia. Other than Charles wife being Te Awanui Te Aporotanga, I have no further info on Charles or his sister etc. Please contact me by direct email Lesandjanet@btinternet.com if you require any further information.
Kind regards, Les Leggett
Thanks Les! Much appreciated. :D
Hi Les
Just wondering if you have come across any info in your family about a William Leggett/Liggett who married Rebecca (unknown surname). They had a daughter Catherine born approx. 1824 in Belpa, Derbyshire, England.
Catherine married 1846 at Aspley Guise Bedfordshire England, to Willam Atkins born 1821 Upton-Warren, Worcestershire, England.
William and Catherine immigrated to Australia in 1850's.
Regards
Sue
Sue,
Catherine was baptised 5th Nov 1820at Belper, DBY She was the daughter of William & Rebecca Liggett (Nee Hancock) who married on 28th Sep 1820 at Duffield, DBY. Catherine had a brother Benjamin born 24 Nov 1824 & baptised 16 Dec 1824 at Wesleyan Methodist Church, Belper, DBY. William died 1824 and was burried 19th Mar 1824 at Wesleyan Methodist, Belper, DBY. I do not know what happened to Rebecca after William's death. I have been unable to trace William's line back because there were two William's born within two years of each other at Belper and I am not sure yet which one is which. I will need to do more work on this line yet. Plerase can you contact me by email with your email address for further correspondence. My email is: LesandJanet@btinternet.com

Recently found a document from the court of King George II in 1790 declaring James Ligget to be an outlaw and giving his 60 Acres of land near Ballykelly to William King. Do you or anyone else have any information on this James Ligget? Still trying to put some connection together to Northern Ireland and Wyte Co. Virginia in the late 1700s.
Hi Steven,
There were a few James Liggett's in N. Ireland around the late 1700's and would need more details on this one to link him to the ones I have reference to.
I have reference to a William Liggett in Virginia born 1771 and married to Esther Heys. I have some other Liggett's in Virginia also. If you want to contact me by email I can send them to you.

Les Leggett

Hi Les,
Just found this blog. I am researching mr family roots which all seem to originate from Belton in Axholm (early 1500’s) through to Gislingham 1600’s. Do you have information back this far?
